THE BACK STORY

Sometimes my creativity happens like a bolt of lightning striking a tree.  Sometimes I see myself walking through museums looking at things I have not created yet.  Other times, I am collecting physical things I like to look at but have no idea why or what will become of these items except objects to move from one location to another.  In this case, I collected, as my mother used to say about her collections, I’m rescuing these things.”  For some strange reason I collect unique wood shapes I find lying around.  Some created by nature and some created by humans.

The wood pieces in this 3D Abstract, have been collected from old thrown out furniture and banisters.  I picked them up and saved them.  I didn’t want someone to one day come along and throw my collect away, so I decided to somehow embed them in an art piece.  In 2025 I found a used stretch painting, of course, in the trash at a yard sale.  I knew at once my wood pieces had found their forever home. This honoring collection began to rapidly fall into place.

More times than I’d like to admit, I have seen others hang my work upside down.  This piece works, for me, in all 4 directions.  I have written the title several times in the paint.  If hung blue on top and again if flipped over green on top, the title is embedded in the paint again.  This is a painting I could continue working but at some point I’d just have to stop.
