THE BACK STORY

TITLES: VIVE’s SINGING FLOWER #4 - TRUMPETS OF HEAVEN

Created from a photo reference originally by Vicki Vessier, my muse, blood family member and confidant.  I’d like to acknowledge that we make a strong creative and personal team.

On the following pages, I have put together a visual journal of this painting development.  When I paint, at the end of each day of painting I photograph my day’s work.  When I view my work on the tiny phone screen I usually see “the good, the bad and the ugly.”  This perspective usually gives me my direction for the next day.  I share this “progress” with Vicki and we discuss my work.  Sometimes it may be just a little bump of color in the wrong place, wrong intensity or wrong feeling - depth, shade or density.

THE BACK STORY

TITLE: THE HOT ROAD AHEAD

I was jolted awake from a dream, much like from an earthquake. I grabbed a post-it, pencil and drew my dream.  THE HOT ROAD AHEAD seemed to be a comment on all the planet noise about the change of our living conditions. This the second time I have exhibited this piece. It is the 5th in a series of “umbrella” paintings I’ve created.

Today it is early May and today the temperature is currently 97° when it used to be in the 70’s.

In the gallery photo on page one, the painting has been compressed to their rectangular format.  It is in fact a square.

I’m always on the lookout for unique umbrellas.  If you think you have one that is inspirational contact me.  I might want to buy it from you and create a painting.

THE BACK STORY

TITLE: THE RIGHT TIME & PLACE

Fire Engine Red/Pantone 032C/Golden Acrylic Paint Pyrrole is one of my favorite colors.  A red by another name is just red.  There could be too much blue or yellow in it. It is one of the 3 primary colors.  When Gallery Gray Cube list a competition exhibition with Red a theme, I looked for my dominate red folder. Besides exhibiting my paintings I’ve decided to show some of my photos which would not, translate to a canvas painting.

Imagine coming out of the grocery store, Trader Joe’s in this case, and find you are parked next to a red-red-red car.  Looking around, I see a red post in front of the parked car.  Both were painted the same color.

My heart skipped a beat.  I was even more excited than  when I saw the Snow Plant.  While pulling my phone out, I also noticed the shopping carts were also the same red. With the a gray wall and the gray walkway, everything seemed perfect.  If I painted something like this, no one would believe it happened for real.

As I started to take photos, the car started backing up.  In a panic, which probably looked like a manic obsessive episode, I tried to get the lady to stop and pull back into the parking space.

Once I convinced her I was not going to harm her and that I loved her car as it was parked by the post, I quickly shot one only image.  I did not want to disturb nor delay her further.
